Beef on Federal Highway: Motorcyclist slashed with meat cleaver after horn dispute


SHAH ALAM: A 45-year-old motorcyclist was injured after being slashed with a meat cleaver following a dispute with another rider along the motorcycle lane of the Federal Highway near Section 13 here on Thursday (June 11).

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Sarudin Samah said police received an emergency call via the 999 hotline at about 8.19am regarding the incident.

Investigations revealed that the incident occurred at about 7am while the victim was on his way to work in Kuala Lumpur.

"The victim honked at another rider who was allegedly obstructing his path. The suspect, a 43-year-old man, was dissatisfied with the victim's action and an argument ensued," he said in a statement.

ACP Sarudin said the suspect subsequently stopped by the roadside before allegedly attacking the victim with a meat cleaver.

"The victim sustained injuries and was taken to Shah Alam Hospital for further treatment.

"We have the suspect and are conducting further investigations into the case," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon. The offence carries a punishment of up to 10 years' imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or any combination of the penalties upon conviction.

He urged those with information related to the incident to contact investigating officer Insp Mohammad Amirul Zulkifli at 012-558 3436 or the nearest police station.
