Strong earthquake hits Mindanao, tremors felt in Sabah


KUALA LUMPUR: A strong earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale struck Mindanao, the Philippines at 7.37am on Monday (June 8), according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a Facebook post, MetMalaysia said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 50km, about 97km south of Koronadal City, Philippines.

Tremors were also felt in Sabah, involving Tawau, Semporna and surrounding areas.

"MetMalaysia is monitoring developments in the incident,” the post said. - Bernama
