Six youths held over viral wheelie stunt video

KUALA LUMPUR: Six youths, including four minors, have been detained after a viral video showed motorcyclists performing dangerous wheelie stunts along several major roads in the capital.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred at about 3.30am on May 23 on Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan P. Ramlee.

Police launched an investigation after a 44-second video showing the stunt went viral on Facebook on May 31.

“Initial investigations found that several motorcyclists were performing dangerous wheelie stunts with pillion riders on public roads, endangering both themselves and other road users,” he said..

Following intelligence gathering and an operation conducted by the department’s Intelligence and Operations Unit, police made the first arrest at about 3.20am on Monday.

The operation led to the detention of a 20-year-old motorcyclist and his 16-year-old girlfriend, who was riding pillion.

A second operation yesterday resulted in the arrest of two more male motorcyclists, aged 17 and 16, along with two female pillion riders aged 18 and 15.
