Jobless youth nabbed for raping teen acquaintance


TAMPIN: Police here have arrested a 19-year-old male suspect for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl he had only recently met.

District OCPD Supt Amiruddien Sariman said the alleged incident occurred on May 23.

The suspect had reportedly picked up the minor on his motorcycle in Seremban before bringing her to Tampin, where he raped her among some bushes.

He said the unemployed suspect and the victim had exchanged phone numbers when they met for the first time, three days prior to the incident.

"The victim lodged a report on the alleged rape around 2am on May 28.

"We detained the suspect on June 2 at his home in Kuala Pilah following a tip-off," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 3), adding that the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

Police have obtained an order to remand the suspect for seven days to assist in investigations.

Supt Amiruddien appealed to anyone with information on the case to call investigating officer Ammer Amzar at 06-4431999 or the nearest police station.
