Upko applies to join GRS

KOTA KINABALU: Upko has applied to become a component member of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
This came following the Upko supreme council meeting on May 25, which unanimously agreed to apply for membership as a component party of GRS.
Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick led a delegation to meet with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is GRS chairman, and to hand in their application.
Ewon said Upko wished to contribute towards the unity and cooperation of Sabah-based parties in strengthening efforts to develop Sabah’s future.
He said this was also to work towards upholding the rights enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Federal Constitution.
“The Sabah First vision championed by Upko is in line with the struggle of GRS through the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 development agenda, which must be further strengthened through closer cooperation and the unity of Sabah-based parties,” he said in a statement.
