KUALA LUMPUR: Former finance minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, will be called to testify as the 11th prosecution witness in the graft trial of Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on July 6.
Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin told High Court Justice Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin this during the trial here on Monday (May 25).
He said there were 25 more witnesses in the list, including Tengku Zafrul.
Muhyiddin's lawyer, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, told the court that the defence had yet to receive Tengku Zafrul's witness statement.
“We have not received his (Tengku Zafrul’s) witness statement. I was told that the statement is lengthy,” Amer Hamzah said.
In response, Wan Shaharuddin said the prosecution would provide the witness statement to the defence by June 20.
Justice Noor Ruwena also told the prosecution to conclude the case by Sept 14.
“I hope this case is given priority as it is a high-profile case.
“I am sure Tan Sri (Muhyiddin) would also want his case to be concluded quickly, otherwise, it would affect his movement,” she said.
Earlier, the court heard the testimony from Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) assistant registrar R. Harshini, who was the 10th witness.
Muhyiddin, 78, who was then prime minister and Bersatu president, was charged with four counts of using his position to obtain bribes totalling RM225.3mil in relation to the Jana Wibawa Project from three companies and an individual for the party.
The offence was allegedly committed at the Prime Minister's Office, Bangunan Perdana Putra in Putrajaya between March 1, 2020 and Aug 20, 2021.
He also faces three counts of receiving proceeds from illegal activities totalling RM200mil which were deposited into Bersatu's bank accounts between February 2021 and July 2022.
The hearing resumes on July 6.
