Security guard charged with murder of friend at landfill

SHAH ALAM: A security guard was charged in the Kuala Selangor Magistrates' Court with the murder of his friend at a landfill in Ladang Tuan Mee, Ijok, early this month.

K. Turairajoo, 43, nodded in understanding after the charge was read out before magistrate Mohamad Ibrahim Muhammad Ghulam.

No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The man was charged with murdering S. Lachumanan, 23, at the Ladang Tuan Mee landfill in Ijok, within the Kuala Selangor district, between 4:41 pm on May 11 and 4:42 am on May 14.

On May 11, the victim was found by family members severely injured and covered in blood at the scene before being taken to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment and was confirmed dead on May 14 while receiving treatment.

The post-mortem results revealed that the victim suffered serious injuries to the head, face, and both forearms caused by blunt objects and sharp weapons, in addition to experiencing brain haemorrhaging and facial fractures.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or a maximum prison sentence of 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, shall be punished with not less than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

The court then set July 24 for mention of the case pending the post-mortem and chemistry reports. - Bernama
