IPOH: An 18-year-old girl was killed while another teenager was seriously injured after the Perodua Kancil they were travelling in was involved in an accident with a Honda CRV.
The incident occurred at Changkat Cermin in Ayer Tawar early Sunday morning (May 24).
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call at 1.15am regarding the accident near Petronas Changkat Cermin.
He said firefighters from the Ayer Tawar and Seri Iskandar fire stations arrived at the scene at 1.24am and found two victims trapped inside the Kancil.
"The 18-year-old victim, a teenager, was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry medical personnel," he said in a statement issued today (May 24).
"An 18-year-old male suffered serious injuries," he added.
The driver of the Honda CRV escaped unharmed.
Sabarodzi said firefighters used special rescue equipment, including cutter and spreader tools, to extricate the trapped victims from the wreckage.
"The injured victim was later taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment, while the deceased was handed over to the police for further action," he said.
A total of 17 personnel and three emergency vehicles were involved in the operation, which ended at 3.18am.
