JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a local male to assist in investigations into an alleged molestation case involving a female primary school student in Seri Alam late last year.
Johor acting police chief Deputy Comm Hoo Chuan Huat said the police detected a viral Facebook post uploaded by the account “Mohd Fadli Salleh” on Thursday (May 21) regarding the alleged incident.
Following the viral post, he added that police received a report at about 9pm on the same day from the victim’s mother, a 37-year-old local woman.
“The complainant alleged that the molestation incident took place around 2025 in the Seri Alam area,” he said here on Friday (May 22).
DCP Hoo said acting on the information received, a team from the Seri Alam district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department arrested the 28-year-old man at about 10.30pm on the same day.
He added that initial urine screening tests found the suspect negative for drugs, while checks also revealed that he had no prior criminal record.
“The police will apply for a remand order against the suspect under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code at the Magistrate’s Court today,” he said.
DCP Hoo added the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for touching any part of a child’s body.
He also urged the public not to speculate or make comments that could interfere with investigations.
DCP Hoo said that those with information on the case can contact the nearest police station, the Johor police hotline at 019-2792095 or the Johor police contingent operations room at 07-2212999.
