Ice lorry driver arrested for stockpiling diesel

SUNGAI PETANI: A 61-year-old man was arrested after he was suspected of purchasing and storing diesel using an ice lorry at a petrol station in Legenda Heights here on Wednesday (May 20).

The Kedah Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry said the man was detained by its enforcement officers after two weeks of surveillance.

An inspection of the lorry uncovered a 1,000-litre intermediate bulk container (IBC) tank filled with a liquid believed to be diesel.

"Preliminary investigations found that the diesel in the IBC tank had been purchased from four petrol stations around Sungai Petani," the state ministry said in a statement on Thursday (May 21).

It said all items seized during the operation were valued at RM38,005, and the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122) for possession of controlled goods, namely diesel, without a permit. – Bernama
