Cops arrest 10 over gang-linked murder in Tangkak


JOHOR BARU: Police have have arrested 10 men over the murder of a man linked to gangs in Bukit Kangkar, Sungai Mati, Tangkak.

Johor acting police chief Deputy Comm Hoo Chuan Huat said the victim, a local, was attacked by a group of men, including three armed with parang at about 7.15pm on March 13 in Bukit Kangkar.

"The victim suffered severe injuries and was later pronounced dead at Hospital Tangkak," he said at a press conference on Monday (May 11).

DCP Hoo said police carried out several raids from March 14 to 18 in Muar, Tangkak and Batu Pahat, leading to the arrest of 10 local men aged from 14 to 40.

He said police also seized weapons used in the attack, including parang, knives and gloves.

"All suspects have previous criminal records and one suspect tested positive for drugs," he said.

He added that investigations found the incident was linked to organised crime activities.

He said three suspects, along with another suspect who is still at large, would be charged at the Tangkak Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (May 12) under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
