Two arrested in Kajang for alleged cable theft, one at large


PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested two men believed to be involved in stealing cables at Taman Bukit Mewah following a viral video of the incident.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the arrests were made by the Kajang district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department around Kajang and Bandar Baru Bangi between 8.15pm and 10pm on Saturday (May 9).

He said the first suspect, a 29-year-old burger seller, has a criminal record with one prior offence, while the second suspect, a 43-year-old unemployed man, has 10 offences and four narcotics-related offences.

“Both suspects have been remanded until May 12 to assist investigations. Police also seized a vehicle believed to have been used during the incident,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

ACP Naazron added that efforts were ongoing to track down another suspect who is still at large.

The case is being investigated under Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Police also thanked members of the public for providing information that led to the arrests.

He urged those with information on criminal activities to contact the nearest police station or the Kajang district control centre at 03-89114243.
