Teen killed in Sungai Petani house fire


SUNGAI PETANI: An 18-year-old teenager was killed while a 50-year-old man suffered breathing difficulties in a fire at a house in Bandar Sri Astana near here early Friday (May 8) morning.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Zone 2 officer and senior operations commander, Fire Superintendent Bryan Del Bungkias said the department received an emergency call at 4.54am.

"The victim was found at 5.23am in the attic and he was pronounced dead by the Health Ministry personnel.

"The fire is believed to have started at the front section of the house before spreading and destroying about 80 per cent of the structure,” he said in a statement Friday.

The fire was brought under control at 5.41am and the operation was concluded at 9.02am Friday.

The cause of the fire and the amount of losses are still under investigation. — Bernama
