Penang Amanah ceramah a warm-up for coming elections, chance to talk to the rakyat, says sec-gen

KEPALA BATAS: A warm-up for the coming elections and insights into the direction of the Pakatan Harapan coalition in Penang will be on the agenda highlighted during the Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) ceramah here, says the party's secretary-general Muhammad Faiz Fadzil.

Faiz said the ceramah is a prelude to the next general election as well as to address current political issues.

"We want to talk about what happened in Negri Sembilan and what direction Penang will be taking when it comes to the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

"We consider this ceramah a warm up for the coming election," he said when contacted by The Star on Thursday (May 7).

Muhammad Faiz, who is also Penang Amanah chairman, said party president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said it was important to go down to the ground and speak to the people.

"He (Mohamad) said the lesson we must take from what happened in Negri Sembilan (where 14 state Umno assemblymen withdrew support for the Mentri Besar and his administration) is that we need to spend time with the people and share insights on the political situation in the country.

"In Penang, we want to talk about the direction of the Pakatan Harapan coalition here, where the people can hear it directly from the leaders.

"We will also touch on the coming elections, particularly in Penang," he said.

He said he understood there were questions about the coalition and the relationship with Umno, especially with what happened in Negri Sembilan.

"We would like to address our supporters as we understand that while we continue our collaboration with Umno, it might affect their sentiments.

"We would like to address their concerns and speak to them through this ceramah," he said.

Though there is no hint of a general election, a ceramah on current issues is taking place at the Penang Amanah office in Sungai Dua, Seberang Perai on Friday (May 8) night.

The ceramah will see leaders from various component parties in the coalition including Muhammad Faiz, Mohamad Sabu, Amanah vice-presidents Adly Zahari and Datuk Mahfuz Omar, Penang DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong, DAP political education director Daniel Gooi, Penang PKR deputy chairman Goh Choon Aik and Penang PKR vice-chairman A. Kumaresan taking the stage.
