Man accused of beating wife leading to miscarriage arrives at Sungai Petani court

SUNGAI PETANI: A man suspected of beating his wife, allegedly causing her to suffer a miscarriage, arrived at the Sungai Petani Court Complex on Thursday (May 7) morning to face a charge.

The 43-year-old suspect arrived at about 8.30am in a Malaysian Prisons Department van, escorted by police vehicles.

According to Sinar Harian, the man, dressed in an orange lock-up outfit, was seen under tight guard as he was brought into the court premises.

Previously, the media reported that a 39-year-old woman, a civil servant, suffered injuries to several parts of her body after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband in an incident here last month.

The victim was also reported to have miscarried when she was 12 weeks pregnant.

It is understood the suspect fled shortly after the incident but was later arrested by police in the Alor Setar area.

Police also confirmed the man had previously been convicted of assaulting his wife in a case in Johor Baru in 2021.
