Anwar visits site of major Sandakan fire


SANDAKAN: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has visited the site of a major fire in Kampung Bahagia here which destroyed about 1,000 homes.

The Prime Minister arrived at the disaster location near Masjid Kampung Bahagia at 4.20pm on Wednesday (April 22), accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.

He spent time surveying the remnants of the water village and also met with victims who lost their homes.

Anwar later continued his visit to the temporary evacuation centre at the Dewan Projek Perumahan Rakyat Taman Batu Sapi.

In the incident on Sunday (April 19), thousands of residents lost their homes as fire spread rapidly through the water village, destroying houses over a 4ha area. – Bernama
