Grass cutter caught with child porn video jailed six months

PARIT: A grass cutter has been sentenced to six months' jail by two separate courts after pleading guilty to possessing 342 obscene videos, including those involving children.

At the Parit Magistrate's Court, Idham Rhusla Mohamad Shahuri, 42, was jailed for six months after admitting to possessing 341 obscene videos in a mobile phone. Magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai ordered the father of two to serve the sentence from Wednesday (April 8).

According to the charge, he was found in possession of the videos on a mobile phone in Kampung Sadang, Belanja Kiri, in the Perak Tengah district.

The offence was framed under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to three years or a fine or both upon conviction.

Meanwhile, at the Ipoh Sessions Court, he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment after pleading guilty to possessing one child pornography video on the same device.

Judge Jean Sharmila Jesudason ordered the sentence to commence from the date of arrest on April 6 and also imposed police supervision for three years after completion of the jail term, in addition to mandatory rehabilitation counselling.

The charge was framed under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum jail term of five years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both.

The accused, represented by National Legal Aid Foundation counsel M. Kathan, appealed for a lenient sentence from the date of arrest, citing his dependants and income of about RM1,800 per month from doing odd jobs, as well as his guilty plea which saved the court time and costs. – Bernama
