PETALING JAYA: Efforts to make the Internet safer, particularly for children and families, have been presented to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil briefed His Majesty on the implementation of the Online Safety Act 2025 during an audience at Istana Bukit Tunku in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The Act aims to establish clear responsibilities for online platforms in ensuring safer digital spaces, especially for younger users.

It also includes introducing age verification mechanisms to prevent children under 16 from opening social media accounts, as part of efforts to protect their safety and well-being.

Fahmi said the legislation would also address issues involving fake accounts targeting the Malay Rulers and members of the royal family.

Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim also granted an audience to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Istana Bukit Tunku, where His Majesty was briefed on the latest developments in the administration of the federal government and discussed current issues.

His Majesty also graced the QSR Brands Shared Efforts in Helping Underprivileged Students event at a hotel here yesterday.

Sultan Ibrahim witnessed the presentation of a mock cheque for RM1mil to representatives of the first recipients of selected educational institutions, namely SK Tasek Utara in Johor Baru (Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor) and Baitul Sakinah Care Centre in Selangor.
