Fisherman found drowned in Sungai Besut


JERTIH: A fisherman was found drowned after he is believed to have fallen into Sungai Besut near Agro Darau in Kampung Darau, Hulu Besut, near here on Sunday (March 29).

Jertih Fire and Rescue Station chief Mustafa Ismail said the department received an emergency call at about 10.22 am, after which six personnel and a fire engine were deployed to the location.

"The victim, identified as Azmani Mukhtar, 45, is believed to have fallen into the river while casting a net from a boat.

"The body was found by members of the public who were searching the area, about 3m from where the victim was believed to have fallen, at about 12.11 pm and was confirmed dead by the medical team," he said when contacted.

Mustafa said the fire and rescue team assisted in retrieving the body before handing it over to the police.

Meanwhile, Besut OCPD Supt Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said the body had been sent to Besut Hospital for a post-mortem. - Bernama
