CCTV captures woman dumping newborn in rubbish bin, probe underway

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have obtained CCTV footage showing an unidentified woman allegedly abandoning a newborn baby girl in a rubbish bin outside a house in Taman Putra Ampang.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairul Anuar Khalid said investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on tracking down the suspect, who is believed to be living in the vicinity of the incident.

“CCTV footage has captured a woman disposing of the baby. We are working to identify and locate her.

“The case is still under investigation,” he said when contacted.

The baby girl, who was found by a member of the public while jogging, is currently in stable condition and is receiving treatment at Ampang Hospital.

“She will be referred to the Social Welfare Department for further care,” ACP Khairul Anuar added.

Police have also recorded statements from several individuals to assist in the investigation, including the complainant who discovered the baby, the homeowner, and nearby residents.

It was earlier reported that the newborn was believed to be about four hours old when she was found, as her umbilical cord was still attached.

Authorities are urging those with information on the case to come forward to assist in ongoing investigations.
