Underwear thief nabbed after brief hunt

JEMPOL: Police have detained a 39-year-old man suspected of stealing women’s underwear from a house in Bahau near here.

Jempol OCPD Supt Norhisham Mustapar said the unemployed suspect was arrested in Taman Mahsan at about 4.30pm on Friday (March 13).

“The suspect has a criminal record involving two drug-related offences.

“We will apply to remand the suspect tomorrow (March 14),” he said in a statement.

Police also seized the stolen underwear from the suspect.

Norhisham said police began tracking down the man after CCTV footage showing him stealing a piece of women’s underwear from a house went viral on Thursday.

The footage showed the suspect snatching the item, which had been left to dry in the front yard, before fleeing the scene.

Investigations found that the suspect had trespassed into the residence by climbing over the perimeter wall.

The case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass, which carries a penalty of up to six months’ jail, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both upon conviction.
