Cops nab man for assaulting Sandakan Municipal Council officer

KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested one suspect following a gang assault on a Sandakan Municipal Council enforcement officer at the Batu 8 Market.

Sandakan district police chief Asst Comm George Abd Rakman said the incident occurred at about 2.30pm when the victim and a colleague were monitoring business activities in the market.

He said the officer had reprimanded a man believed to be selling illicit cigarettes before an argument broke out, leading to several unidentified individuals attacking the victim.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant, Section 332 for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from duty, and Section 147 for rioting.
