Hamzah still Opposition Leader, Speaker tells Dewan Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR: Larut Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin is still the Opposition Leader for now, says Tan Sri Johari Abdul (pic).

The Dewan Rakyat Speaker said his office has yet to receive any official documents stating or naming any other candidates to replace Hamzah, who was sacked from Bersatu on Feb 13.

"This is not a matter under the House. It is for the parties themselves to decide (and) I do not want to interfere.

"As long as I have not received the letter then YB Larut is still the Opposition Leader.

"As for tomorrow, I wouldn't know," he said when informing the Lower House of the matter on Tuesday (March 3).

RSN Rayer (PH-Bukit Jelutong) wanted to know who is the current Opposition Leader after Hamzah's sacking, saying there had been speculation that Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Baru) was chosen for the role.
