Plastics factory destroyed in Kuala Selangor fire


PETALING JAYA: A plastics processing factory in Jeram, Kuala Selangor has been 80% destroyed in a fire.

Selangor North Zone 7 Fire and Rescue Department chief Samsol Maarif Saibani said the department received an emergency call at 1.34pm on Thursday (Feb 26).

Fire engines from the Kuala Selangor Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 1.57pm, about 22km away.

"The fire involved an open-structure factory processing plastics. The actual size of the premises is about 60m x 30m and an estimated 80% of the building was affected," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He said firefighters used water from an open source as well as water tankers, deploying two 210m hose lines and four nozzles to contain the blaze.

"As of 5.15pm, about 50% of the fire had been extinguished and firefighting operations are still ongoing to ensure there are no remaining hotspots," he said.

No casualties have been reported so far.

A total of 21 personnel were involved in the operation, with assistance from fire stations in Bestari Jaya, Tanjung Karang, Klang Utara, Sabak Bernam and Sungai Besar.
