KUALA LUMPUR: It is not an issue of dakwah (preaching) but it is about the canopy, says Hannah Yeoh (pic) on the removal of the Multiracial Reverted Muslims (MRM) stall for its Street Dakwah programme at Jalan Bukit Bintang.
“It is not the issue of dakwah (preaching), it is the a canopy,” the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) said during Ministers' Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Feb 26).
She added that Kuala Lumpur City Hall(DBKL) had explained the matter in a statement.
According to Yeoh, City Hall acted based on public complaints and waited half an hour for the organisers to vacate the place before taking action.
“The items seized by DBKL include chairs, foldable tables, canopy and trolley. This is not a dakwah issue but a canopy that was set up on the site,” she said.
She said DBKL was there for another operation but they stayed on to look into the matter when they received a complaint.
“The matter has been resolved,” she said, adding that the items have been returned to MRM.
“There were no religious items seized by DBKL,” she said,
She was responding to a supplementary question by Datuk Seri Shahidan Kasim (PN-Arau).
Shahidan claimed that Street Dakwah had been conducted in the past including ten years ago, but there had been no issue. However, items were seized under the administration of the new Kuala Lumpur mayor.
