Kluang cops nab two for illegal possession of fireworks

KLUANG: Two men have been arrested by the police for the illegal possession of fireworks.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the men, aged 25 and 41 years old, were arrested separately at their homes between 12.35am and 1.11am on Wednesday (Feb 25).

“This was based on a complaint about the illegal possession of fireworks, which we received about an hour prior.

“Along with the arrest, we seized 11 units of ‘Happy Boom’ fireworks, including a set that had been lighted, and two lighters,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 26).

He added that the suspects, who worked as a shop assistant locally and a painter in Singapore, respectively, have prior drug records. Both tested negative for drugs during the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957 for causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property, which carries a penalty of up to seven years' imprisonment or a fine of RM10,000 or both upon conviction.
