Man, 54, dies while hiking at Gunung Lambak


KLUANG: A 54-year-old man died after collapsing while hiking at Gunung Lambak here on Monday (Feb 23).

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident occurred at about noon.

He said the victim, identified as Loh Yeong Keong, had begun the hike at around 11am with his 53-year-old sister-in-law.

“Upon reaching a point along the trail at about 12pm, the victim suddenly collapsed and became unconscious.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel,” he said in a statement.

ACP Bahrin added that an initial examination found no signs of foul play or criminal elements, and the case has been classified as sudden death.

The victim’s body was sent to the forensic unit at Hospital Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom, with a post-mortem scheduled for 8am on Tuesday to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, Kluang Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Saifulfadly Karim said they received a distress call at 12.28pm.

He said the victim had sustained a head injury and was located about 1.5km from the base of the trail.

“Health Ministry personnel provided initial treatment before he was pronounced dead. The body was later handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
