Two houses destroyed in Ampang fire


AMPANG: Two houses were destroyed and two vehicles damaged in a fire that broke out at Lorong Merbau 3, Kampung Melayu Ampang here on Tuesday (Feb 17).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 9.47am, reported Sinar Harian.

"The first engine from the Ampang Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene about four minutes after the call was received," he said.

"The firefighting operation involved personnel from the Ampang Fire and Rescue Station with assistance from the Pandan Indah Fire and Rescue Station," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the fire involved a Class B house measuring 30 by 60 square feet, which was about 90% destroyed.

"The fire also spread to another house measuring 20 by 60 square feet, which was about 50%destroyed," he said.

"The fire also involved a pickup, which was about 60% burnt, while another vehicle was about 10% damaged," he added.

He said no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

"The operation involved 15 firefighters using two Light Fire Rescue Tender vehicles, an Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle and a water tanker," he said.

"The fire was brought under control before extinguishing and overhaul work was carried out," he said.

He added that the total losses and the cause of the fire are still under investigation.
