BATU PAHAT: About 70% of a madrasah building was destroyed in a fire at Kampung Kerinchi in Parit Yaani, here.

Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Station operations commander chief Fairuz Helmi Mohd Ali said they received a distress call at 8.54am on Tuesday (Feb 17) of a fire incident involving a madrasah at Kampung Baru Mukim 7.

A team from the Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by personnel from the Penggaram station, was dispatched to the scene, about 20km away, and arrived at 9.12am.

Another 100-foot hose line with one nozzle from the Penggaram station drew water from an open source to extinguish the flames.

Fairuz Helmi also said 16 personnel were involved in the operation, assisted by two Fire Rescue Tenders, two Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicles and two Rapid Intervention Motorcycles.

He added that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
