Finance Ministry setting up task force to curb misuse of social visit passes

PUTRAJAYA: A task force will be set up to address the issue of misuse of social visit passes, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

He said Finance Ministry would set up and coordinate the team, including scrutinising aspects of enforcement and improving laws to address the issue.

"The ministry will coordinate this for a prompt and comprehensive response," he said at a post-Cabinet meeting press conference here on Friday (Feb 6).

Fahmi said the task force would comprise members from the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry; Home Ministry; Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry; Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Ministry; and Housing and Local Government Ministry.

He said at the previous Cabinet meeting a week ago, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had stressed the need for strict enforcement action against foreigners who misuse social visit passes or visa relaxation to work in Malaysia.

At the meeting, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail reported that 54,791 foreign nationals had been subjected to enforcement action in 2025 and until mid-January this year. – Bernama
