KUALA LUMPUR: All four presidents of Perikatan Nasional's component parties, including Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, will attend an extraordinary meeting of the coalition's supreme leadership council to elect a new chairman.
Perikatan deputy secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (pic) told a press conference in Parliament on Thursday (Feb 5) that the meeting is expected to be held after Feb 19, although the exact date has yet to be finalised.
Muhyiddin stepped down as Perikatan chairman effective Jan 1, followed by the resignation of Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and several Bersatu state chiefs.
PAS has since indicated its readiness to lead the coalition, with speculation mounting over potential candidates including its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri.
Perikatan comprises Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People's Party.
