Cops nab three in probe into van driver's murder in Sungai Dua

BUTTERWORTH: Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old school van driver found dead in her Sungai Dua flat on Wednesday (Feb 4)

State police chief Comm Datuk Azizee Ismail said the suspects, aged between 38 and 45 years old, were detained in the Bukit Mertajam and Kubang Semang areas within 24 hours of the incident.

“We acted swiftly based on information and intelligence, and all three suspects have been remanded for seven days for further investigations,” he said.

The victim, a woman in her 40s, was found unconscious in her bedroom at Flat Sri Murni, Sungai Dua, North Seberang Perai, around 1.40pm Feb 4.

Comm Azizee said she had sustained slash wounds to her neck, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp object.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects tested positive for ketamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty, or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years, with at least 12 strokes of the cane if convicted.

Comm Azizee urged anyone with information to contact senior investigating officer ASP Hasryman Osman at 04-576 2222 ext 2275, or visit the nearest police station.
