Govt mulls adding fresh produce to Sara list

SUNGAI PETANI: Fresh produce may be included as essential items under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme in time for the upcoming Ramadan, said Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim.

The political secretary to the Finance Minister said this comes following requests for additional items to be included under the Sara list.

“The ministry is considering including fresh goods such as fish, chicken and others.

“We expect this to be implemented before Ramadan so that by Aidilfitri and other upcoming celebrations, it can help ease the burden on the public when purchasing these items,” he said after a gotong-royong clean-up programme held at Surau Kampung Perak, Bukit Selambau, yesterday.

He added that the government is also exploring the best mechanisms to expand Sara to help ease the cost of living for the public.

“Recipients will also be able to purchase items at more small shops, especially in rural areas,” he said.
