Over 495,000 vehicles checked by Johor JPJ last year

KULAI: The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) inspected a total of 495,779 vehicles throughout 2025, and took enforcement action against 114,153 of them.

During the same period, JPJ officers issued 242,451 notices, with vehicle licensing violations remaining the most common offence.

State JPJ director Zulkarnain Yasin said 62,608 cases involved expired road tax or lack of insurance protection among vehicles stopped during checks.

“A total of 2,075 vehicles were seized by the department last year for various serious offences.

“In terms of commercial vehicles, some 9,575 overloading cases were detected, resulting in the issuance of 9,079 JPJ(P)22 notices and 496 APAD (Land Public Transport Agency) notices,” he told a press conference at the Air Bemban JPJ enforcement station here yesterday.

Zulkarnain said the department has continued its enforcement momentum this year through Ops Penguatkuasaan Warga Asing (Ops Pewa), which targets unlicensed foreign motorists and non-compliant vehicles.

“From Jan 1 until yesterday, our officers have seized 235 vehicles under the operation, involving motorcycles, cars, lorries and vans.

“Throughout the period, we have inspected 1,109 vehicles and issued 720 notices, covering 918 various offences,” he said.

He said the highest offences recorded involved motorists without a driving license, followed by expired road tax, absence of insurance coverage and other technical violations.

A total of 459 foreign nationals were penalised during the statewide operation, including individuals from Pakistan (195), Bangladesh (110), Indonesia (99), Myanmar (23), Nepal (15) and other countries (17), he said.

He said the crackdown was launched following increasing public concern over the growing presence of foreign motorists in the state.

He said many complaints were lodged by residents worried about safety issues and non-compliance with local traffic laws.
