PUTRAJAYA: The Housing and Local Government Ministry will continue its efforts to enhance the Urban Renewal Bill.
Nga Kor Ming said his ministry will proceed with engagement sessions involving local residents, academics, elected representatives and industry experts to ensure that all views are taken into account, following the Cabinet’s decision to withdraw the Urban Renewal Bill and enhance it before re-tabling it at a later date.
“The purpose of the Urban Renewal Bill is to improve the quality of life of people living in dilapidated and ageing urban areas, regenerate local socio-economic activity, and ensure the rights of original property owners are protected throughout the urban renewal process,” he said.
“The ministry will continue to study every piece of feedback received and further enhance the Bill to ensure the rights of original owners are safeguarded more comprehensively.”
Once the improvement process is finalised, the Urban Renewal Bill will be re-tabled in Parliament in an enhanced format, Nga added.
“The Housing and Local Government Ministry remains committed to ensuring that the revised Urban Renewal Bill supports a safer, more planned, sustainable and liveable urban redevelopment agenda, in line with the government’s aspirations.”
