Muay Thai boxer dies after being hit by pickup truck in Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG: A 20-year-old Muay Thai boxer died after being hit by a pickup truck while jogging at Kilometer 4 of Jalan Gua Musang-Sungai Terah on Wednesday (Jan 21).

The victim, Mohamad Nabil Mohamad, was reportedly thrown 40m from the point of impact and died at the scene in the 6.05pm incident.

Gua Musang district police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said the police received a report regarding the accident from the public at 6.30pm.

Preliminary investigations found that the 33-year-old pickup truck driver was travelling from Sungai Terah towards Gua Musang when he lost control of the vehicle.

“As a result, the vehicle veered onto the road shoulder and struck the victim, who was jogging with a friend,” Sik said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 21), adding that the pickup truck skidded and overturned on the shoulder of the road.

He added that the victim was confirmed dead at the location due to severe injuries, while his friend sustained only minor injuries.
