AKPS seizes over 1.2 tonnes frozen meat at KLIA over import permit violations

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has seized 1,234.90kg of frozen beef and mutton worth over RM134,000 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Free Commercial Zone (FCZ).

AKPS reported that the goods, suspected of failing to meet import permit requirements were confiscated by the goods inspection division during an operation at 7pm on Thursday (Jan 15).

"It was found that the agricultural commodities did not comply with the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) import permit conditions.

"The importer failed to provide a valid original health certificate from the exporting country," read the statement on Friday (Jan 16).

According to AKPS, the goods were imported from Australia by a local company and the case is being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Maqis Act 2011 for failing to meet required import permit conditions.

"All seized goods have been detained for further action in accordance with procedures and legal provisions," the statement added.

AKPS reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to ensuring that imported goods comply with regulations and do not compromise the safety, public health, and national interests of the country. – Bernama
