EC forms four teams to watch campaigning

KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission (EC) has set up four election campaign enforcement teams to monitor all candidates’ activities throughout their campaigning, said its chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun (pic).

He added 28 election observers from nine organisations will also take part in the coming by-election to ensure transparency during polling day.

He reminded all candidates to be aware of the Election Offences Act 1954 and local by-laws when handing out any materials bearing their party logos and candidates’ and party leaders’ photographs.

Campaign materials such as advertisements, pamphlets, stickers and posters must include the name and address of the printers and publishers, while flags, posters of party symbols, pictures of party leaders, and the candidates do not need those details, said Ramlan.

He also said that any materials featuring wording that could provoke ill feelings, incite racial sentiments, touch upon sensitive religious issues, or provoke enmity are strictly prohibited.
