Listen to 'big bro': Stay on for the party's struggle, Umno sec-gen tells Akmal

KUALA LUMPUR: Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh should not give up as Umno Youth chief but stay on and fight for the greater agenda, says party secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

He said that Umno has yet to receive any resignation letter from the Merlimau assemblyman, who was said to have voiced his wishes to resign from his Umno post and the Melaka state seat.

"Umno has not been informed of any resignation of Akmal as Youth chief.

"As the big brother, I would like to tell Akmal that differences of opinion in a party are quite normal, and my views (as Umno Youth chief) were once not accepted, too.

"That does not mean we have to step down. Agree to disagree, but don't give up. Fight for the bigger agenda," Asyraf Wajdi said during a media briefing on Friday (Jan 9) on the preparations for next week's Umno General Assembly.

Akmal, who has openly derided Umno for being complacent over sensitive remarks by DAP leaders, had been seen to be butting heads with party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over the cooperation with DAP.

Cryptic messages on his social media have been loosely translated by netizens as Akmal wanting to resign from his posts.
