Kedah Raja Muda lauds man for alerting authorities on grandson's drug abuse

SUNGAI PETANI: The Raja Muda of Kedah Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin praised a grandfather from Kampung Sungai Pial, Merbok, near here, for reporting his grandson's involvement in drug abuse.

His Royal Highness described the action as courageous and responsible, and urged others to emulate it in similar situations.

"This responsible and brave step shows that he cares deeply for his grandson, as such action can save him from a worse situation.

"Reporting wrongdoing is a religious and moral duty. We cannot hide it," Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah said when visiting the man at his home on Thursday (Jan 8).

The Raja Puan Muda of Kedah Che Puan Muda Zaheeda Mohamad Ariff accompanied His Royal Highness during the visit.

Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah also said that reporting drug abuse to the authorities, such as the National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada), would allow the necessary action to be taken against those involved.

Meanwhile, Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Hanyan Ramlan said that the man's 29-year-old grandson had previously been arrested in 2020, 2023 and 2024 for drug-related offences.

He added that the man was arrested again on Thursday night following a police report filed by his grandfather requesting his immediate arrest.

"The suspect has been arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and we are seeking to conduct an investigation under Section 39C of the same act," Hanyan said.

Previously, the media reported that an elderly man had lodged a report with the authorities over his grandson's alleged involvement in drug abuse. - Bernama
