Melaka DAP exco ready to resign if Barisan withdraws from state govt

MELAKA: A sole Melaka DAP executive councillor is prepared to resign from the state government should Barisan Nasional or Umno withdraw, resulting in the dissolution of the current administration.

State Entrepreneur, Cooperative Development and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Allex Seah Shoo Chin said the move is consistent with his principles and commitment to maintaining stability in the state government.

At the same time, Seah, who is also Melaka DAP secretary, recalled the spirit of the unity government formed in 2023 at the invitation of Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

“On Jan 3, Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh called on Umno to leave the unity government and for DAP to exit the state's administration.

“For me, if Barisan or Umno chooses to withdraw and dissolve the current state government, I will immediately resign as an exco appointed since 2023,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday (Jan 4).

Seah, who is also the Kesidang assemblyman, however, stressed that any decision would ultimately be made in accordance with the party’s stance.

On Saturday (January 3), Akmal challenged DAP leaders to resign in Melaka, noting that the party is also part of the Barisan-led state government.

Akmal, who is also a Melaka Exco, made the remarks during his speech at the Umno Youth Special Convention at Kuala Lumpur.
