PM orders immediate replacement of collapsed bridge in Kuala Krai

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed that funds be allocated for the immediate replacement of the collapsed suspension bridge at Lata Rek, Kuala Krai in Kelantan.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a statement said the Prime Minister’s directive was aimed at ensuring public safety and convenience.

“The replacement works for the bridge will be carried out by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department with relevant agencies to ensure prompt and effective action, as well as to guarantee the safety and access of local residents,” it said yesterday, Bernama reported.

The PMO said Anwar viewed the incident, which resulted in injuries to several people and disrupted daily access for residents around Kampung Pasir Jering, Dusun Ban, Dusun Bunut and Kampung Batu Pagar, as a serious matter.

“The Prime Minister expressed his sympathy and deep concern to more than 50 victims involved in the incident, particularly the newly-wed couple and their family who were affected by this misfortune,” the statement said.

It was reported that the festive atmosphere of a wedding reception turned chaotic when a suspension bridge used by their guests suddenly collapsed on Thursday, causing more than 50 victims to fall into Sungai Chatel Damai, Lata Rek.
