SEPANG: The first tourists arriving in Malaysia in 2026 were welcomed with cultural festivities and complimentary goodie bags as part of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign on Thursday (Jan 1).
The ceremony took place at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, where tourists received VM2026-themed goodie bags upon entering the arrival hall.
These goodie bags included unique souvenirs, such as VM2026 keychains, along with local snacks and sponsored vouchers from various local brands and services.
Tourists also enjoyed a cultural introduction to Malaysian heritage, featuring vibrant local performances and a taste of the country's beloved fruit, durian, served as free Musang King ice cream.
In addition, the VM2026 mascots, Wira and Manja the Malayan Sun Bears, made a special appearance, attracting tourists who eagerly took photos with the charming characters.
This ceremony was just one of many similar events held at 55 key entry points across all 13 states on Jan 1, marking the launch of the highly anticipated VM2026.
Also present at KLIA was the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who emphasized his Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the success of VM2026 through such welcoming initiatives.
“We want to demonstrate that our country is very friendly, and that our culture offers a warm welcome to tourists from around the world. This event reflects our commitment to greeting visitors as part of VM2026,” he stated, after personally greeting tourists and handing out goodie bags at KLIA on Thursday (Jan 1).
