Religious school teacher pleads guilty to sexually assaulting two male pupils


KUALA LUMPUR: A religious school teacher has pleaded guilty to three charges of committing physical sexual assault against two male pupils.

The accused, a 40-year-old Indonesian named Kumpul, was charged at the Sessions Court here as a person in a position of trust with committing physical sexual assault against the two boys aged 11 and 10 years old at the time of the offences.

The offences were committed at a religious primary school in Wangsa Maju here between April 2024 and November 2025.

He was charged under Sections 14(a) and 16(1) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Section 14(a) carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and is punishable with caning, while Section 16(1) prescribes a maximum of five years' imprisonment and not less than two strokes of the cane.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Pervinah Mohamad Yusof did not offer bail, saying the accused posed a flight risk and cited Immigration records showing discrepancies in his passport information.

Judge Noridah Adam denied bail and set Jan 5 and 21, 2026, for the presentation of facts and sentencing. The accused was unrepresented. – Bernama
