Warisan yet to decide if it will contest Lamag, Kinabatangan seats, says Shafie

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan has yet to decide on whether it will contest in the Jan 24 Lamag and Kinabatangan by-elections, says president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

“We want to clarify that no decision has been made on whether the party will contest the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election and the Lamag state by-election.

“At this point, any claims or assertions suggesting that Warisan has decided either to contest or not to contest are premature and inaccurate,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 30).

Shafie said that Warisan will make its decision through its internal discussions and proper party processes, based on what is best for the people of Sabah.

“Once a decision is made, it will be announced officially through Warisan’s authorised channels. Until then, the public and the media are advised to rely only on confirmed statements issued by the party,” he added.

In the recently-concluded state elections, Warisan failed to win any of the three state seats in the Kinabatangan constituency, with Sabah Barisan retaining both Lamag and Sukau and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) retaining its Kuamut seat.

GRS, which forged a coalition government with Sabah Barisan, reached a consensus with its partner not to contest the Kinabatangan and Lamag seats.
