Two killed, six hurt in Dungun MPV crash

DUNGUN: Two men died while six others were injured after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in skidded off the road at KM3 Jalan Paka-Bandar Al Mukhtafi Billah Shah near here.

Dungun OCPD Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir said that in the 7.34am Monday (Dec 29) incident, Muhammad Asyraf Mohd Zahir, 21, and Pakistani national Siraj Noman, 27, died at the scene after sustaining severe injuries.

She said the six other victims, comprising one local and five foreign nationals aged between 30 and 40, were injured and rushed to Hospital Dungun.

"At the time of the incident, all the victims were travelling from Kampung Nyior to Santong in Paka to carry out electrical wiring project works.

"Upon arriving at the location, the MPV is believed to have gone out of control at a bend before skidding and crashing into a lamp post," she said in a statement.

Supt Maizura said a team of fire and rescue personnel took about 15 minutes to extricate the two victims' trapped bodies, which were then handed over to the police for further action.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," she said. – Bernama
