Suspected bomb maker remanded one week

SEREMBAN: The man arrested in connection with an explosion in Desa Palma, Nilai, has been remanded for a week until Jan 3.

Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the remand order against the 62-year-old man was issued by Senior Assistant Registrar Siti Nur Ain Ariffin at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital here, where the suspect is receiving treatment for injuries.

“The remand is to facilitate further investigations under Sections 307 and 435 of the Penal Code, and Section 4 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act,” he said.

The suspect, who suffered burns to the face, body, hands and feet, was arrested in Batang Benar at 4.15pm on Saturday.

The suspect is believed to possess technical knowledge and specific skills in making explosive materials, based on the discovery of devices and equipment at his rented house.

DCP Alzafny was earlier reported to have said that police found objects suspected to be improvised explosive devices following the incident on Dec 22.

Police had received a report stating an object had exploded and nails were scattered in the area.
