Floods: Pahang sees sharp drop in number of evacuees

KUANTAN: The number of flood victims at relief centres in Pahang recorded a significant decrease on Monday (Dec 22) evening, with  218 people from 66 families compared to 580 people (167 families) in the morning.

According to the Social Welfare Department (JKM) Infobencana application, Kuantan recorded 138 victims (39 families), followed by Pekan (45 people, 21 families) and Maran (35 victims, six families) as of 5pm.

It said only five relief centres are still operating – three in Pekan and one each in Kuantan and Maran.

The centres are the Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Semangat in Kuantan and Balairaya Kampung Baru Pertanian in  Maran; and SM Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, SK Pulau Manis and Dewan Orang Ramai Air Hitam in Pekan.

According to the Public Infobanjir portal, two rivers have exceeded the danger level, namely Sungai Pahang at Lubuk Paku, Maran and at Kuala Sungai Chini, Pekan; and Sungai Keratong in Kampung Rekoh, Rompin. – Bernama
