Floods: Number of evacuees remains unchanged at 356 people in Johor


JOHOR BARU: A total of 356 people from 93 families remain at three temporary flood relief centres in Mersing as of Saturday (Dec 20) morning.

According to the Johor state disaster management committee, the figure has remained unchanged since Thursday (Dec 18).

“Following monitoring and risk assessments by the technical departments in the affected areas, it was found that the floodwaters have begun to recede completely.

“The weather is also clear, and hopefully residents will be allowed to return to their homes today,” it said in a statement.

The three flood relief centres that have been opened since Dec 18 are SK Pusat Air Tawar, SJKC Chiao Ching and SK Labong.

Meanwhile, the affected areas include Kg Baru Air Tawar, Kg Hubong, Kg Belukar Juling, Kg Semaloi and Kg Orang Asli Labong.
