Baby's body found in plastic bag in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM: The area around a business centre in Section 25 was thrown into turmoil when a lifeless baby was found in a plastic bag left in an alley behind a supermarket on Saturday (Dec 20), Sinar Harian reports.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Ramsay Embol said police received information about the discovery from the public through the Shah Alam district police headquarters control centre, the Malay language daily reported.

"Police officers on patrol were dispatched to the location to confirm the discovery of a baby girl inside a plastic bag.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that ambulance personnel contacted had confirmed the baby was deceased," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Ramsay stated that forensic team members from the Selangor police headquarters were also deployed to the scene to manage the site and collect evidence to assist the investigation.

"Initial investigations at the scene suggest that the baby was likely born elsewhere before being abandoned in the area.

"Further investigations are ongoing to gather evidence and obtain statements from the public around the area," he said.

He added that the baby's body was sent to the Forensic Unit of the Pathology Department at Klang Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

"The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code.

"The public with information related to the incident is urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Inspector Ahmad Mokhsin Abdul Rahman, at 011-1755 4394 to assist in the investigation," he said.
